Research project Prowipusal
Meleghy Automotive also has aluminum components in its production processes that are joined by spot welding, among other methods. A major challenge here is the durability of electrode caps and the quality of the welded joint.
Within the framework of the publicly funded research project Prowipusal, on the subject of welding aluminum, very promising results were achieved. In this project, an intelligent welding control system in conjunction with a piezo reactor was developed and successfully tested in a production environment.
By means of a piezo reactor integrated into the force flow, it is possible to apply an additional highly dynamic force pulse during the welding process, which results in an improved, finer-grained weld structure while simultaneously increasing the electrode durability. As a result, electrodes can be used more sustainably and economically, contributing to an increase in quality but also to the conservation of resources.
The research project Prowipusal was carried out in cooperation with the companies Fraunhofer Institut IWU Dresden (research and project management), EST Dresden (design and construction of prototype system), Harms und Wende (development of welding control technology) and Meleghy Automotive (production know-how and test environment).
